Eyes, MomMEEE, Eyes!

That's what Kairi screeched as she thrust her black-eyed peas back at me. I took a bite to show her that they were mmm mmm good, but again I heard, "Eyes, Mommy!, Eyeeeeeeeeees!!!!!!!" They're gross, didja know that?

But Alex didn't think so! He loved his black-eyed peas. He ate 1/2 an adult serving of black-eyed peas and an entire banana. He loves his food!!!

Jesus Loves Me

I forgot to share a sweet Kairi story!

Kairi has a bunny that sings part of Jesus Loves Me when it's belly is squeezed. I gave it to her last Easter. While the voice freaks me out a little bit, it's one of her all time favorite stuffed animals, and is never far from her.

Yesterday she was having Uncle Matt play it over and over again as she has yet to figure out how to make it sing for her. At first she was singing along in her normal babble-song voice. But slowly we began to hear very clearly:

Esus Ooovs This Know Bible Tells So Yes Esus Oooves. Over and over again she sang the lyrics to Jesus Loves Me. Her voice carried the right inflections and stayed in time very well. It was adorable! She sang for a good 10 minutes. :)

As a family we set and listened to her sing to all of us. And after she had her fill, we hugged her close and told her that YES, Jesus does love her, as do all of us.

But this song did not just happen one time. Today my mom took an old box and put a blanket in it and made a bed for Kairi's babies. Kairi sang them to sleep using the bunny to help her sing Jesus Loves Me.

Happy Easter!

So perhaps I am a day late and a dollar short, but I mean it just as much today as I did yesterday! :) Of course we didn't do the Easter bunny -- same reason that we don't do Santa. 1) We're not going to lie about anything to our kids. 2) The emphasis of the holiday should be on Christ -- not Santa, not an Easter bunny. The gifts our children receive are from US, not from some mythical person/creature.

That being said ---- We still had fun! :D Well, the babies did at least. I was sick all day Sunday.

Help a friend out!

A friend of mine has a chance to have a picture of her son and husband published in Parents' magazine.

But in order to make it, the picture needs several more votes!

Please help us out!

I Should Have Known ......

I should have known that today was going to be a rough day when it started out with grass fires.

Today we went to the closet lake, 1 1/2 hours away, for a day long fishing trip. It took several hours to load up, but once we hit the road, we were determined that it was going to be a great day.

20 minutes into the trip, we hit this:

By the time the trip was over, we had passed 4 fires like the first. After the first, we probably should have turned around and come back home.

See the "pretty" lake:

We get to the lake and immediately have a picnic out of the back of my dad's pickup. Photobucket

We get down to the shoreline, when Kairi's afternoon tantrum begins.

Turns out, this time she had a reason to be upset.

My baby's allergic to sunscreen! We rushed her to the restroom as soon as we realized what was going on, and washed her off. Her face is still slightly swollen, but it IS getting.

After washing her off, we were driving back to the lake, when I glanced in the rear view mirror to see Kairi waving her arms, panicked, but unable to communicate. She was choking on the sandwich and water that she had just downed.

The day did begin to get better from here.

Here's a few cute pictures from the rest of the trip:

A Few More Things

A Worthy Cause

I'd like to ask you all to visit Lansinoh's Breastsfeeding Initiative and consider donating. You may not have heard me "preach" on this subject in the past, but it is something that I feel passionately about. I recently looked up the exact wording of the laws in both Texas and Florida and am proud of both states for protecting the rights of mothers to bf, and especially Florida as their wording is much more exact. But more still needs to be done. There needs to be more education for the public on the benefits of breastfeeding. Owners and managers of businesses should all be made aware that it is illegal (in most states) for them to even ask for a woman to go to another area to feed their baby. Women need to taught that they ARE capable of breastfeeding as long as they are determined and prepared to truly do so, even if they are working.

Now, don't get me wrong, I am all for modesty and courtesy when nursing in public. BUT I cannot begin to describe the number of times that Alex has suddenly decided that he was too hot under his blanket and suddenly yanked it off of me. I was mortified ... and probably much more embarrassed than any of those around me (especially b/c I move quickly and cover before most even notice), but it still is something that I can't always control. (Btw, nursing mothers should check out www.bebeaulait.com for really cute nursing covers that are molded at the top in order to provide a place to look down and to help w/ air circulation. I ordered one last night and am very excited about it! Expensive, but hopefully worth it.) To suggest that I consider staying in the house anytime he might want to eat is ridiculous as I do not have the time for that. And to be told that I must nurse in a bathroom is insulting -- the number of germs and diseases in a public bathroom makes me scared to even take my baby in his carrier in one, much less allow him to eat in it. These "options" that have been suggested to me as viable options for nursing in public are not true options. A mother has a right to nurse her child anywhere she is authorized to be. You would not consider asking a mother that was giving her baby a bottle to do so in the bathroom, so do not ask me to either.

Please join me in helping to support this cause. The information on the website is much more intelligible than my ramblings, so check them out and buy a bracelet!

Stargate SG1: The Ark of Truth

Big Sister

Kairi is a good big sister. She brings us pacifiers and toys for Alex every time he cries. If no one is close by, she sits there patting him going sssssshhhhhhhh and rubbing his head.
